About The Department

 

Brief History of the Department

English has been one of the earliest departments with which Parimal Mitra Smriti Mahavidyalaya began its journey in 1985. Honours was introduced in 2004. As fulltime teachers on substantive posts Prof. Basudev Paul and Arpita Dasgupta joined the department on 10-02-1986 and 24-04-2010 respectively. The paucity of full-time permanent faculty has been compensated somewhat over the years by State-Aided College Teachers (SACT). With the superannuation of Prof. Paul on 31-08-2024, the department has been operating as a team of five members comprising an Associate Professor, three SACT teachers and one guest teacher.

Vision

To provide quality education to the students that will boost their interest in the subject and facilitate their progression in the academic world has been the visionary goal of the department. We aspire to see our department blossoming as a center for excellence that will contribute signally to the study of English Language and Literature in our country.

Accordingly, the department is mission bound to:
