Brief History of the department

The department of sociology started in 2012 with general course only. The department began with a guest teacher Sumana Basumata in the year 2013. Ms Piyali Sikdar joined the college on 1st July 2013. At present the department is running with two State Aided College Teachers (SACT).

Vision

The sociology department consists of faculty and staff who are energetic and effectively engaged in teaching, community building etc. Sociology classes are rigorous, inclusive, inspiring and well connected to the world outside the class room. It has been the visionary goal of the department to enable the students to develop sociological imagination while gaining enriching experiences and tangible skills that will lead to future success.

Mission

The sociology department seeks to

  •  oprovide a high quality and inclusive educational experience that challenges and prepares students to become effective members of their communities.
  • oengage in interesting and relevant scholarship
  • ointeract regularly with stakeholders from wider communities producing valuable public sociology.
  • ounderstand the magnitude of the impact of prevailing superstition.
  • ocreate awareness among people about the evil effect of the superstitions on mind, body& society.
  • oenlighten the mass in Rural and Tribal areas.
